We’re now professionals at saying goodbye to good friends

Over the past 5 years I have seen many good friends come and go through WLIO. Just this past December Andy Young and his fiance Kristy left Lima for thier hometown of Buffalo. Now our morning meteorologist Laura Betker and her boyfriend Bryan are leaving us for a job in Minneapolis (also thier hometown). The selfish side of me never wants people like this to leave. They were all great friends here in Lima and will really, really be missed. For several years, I saw the work they did here at WLIO and can honestly say that they truly cared and were passionate about their work. It’s a very safe bet to say that I know I will not be the only one who misses them 😦 All of us here in West Central Ohio are rooting for you guys to continue doing great things in your new jobs!!!!

This is the all too familiar reality of the business we work in! If there is an upside to the turnaround it’s that we constantly get the chance to meet new people, people from all over the country sometimes, and hopefully make lifelong friendships in the process!

You Mean to Tell Me I Get Paid for This?

Seriously? I’ve been at this now for about 5 years, and every once and a while I’ll be doing the news and think to myself, “this is really cool, I can’t believe I’m actually doing this!”  No joke, I can remember being eight-years-old standing in front of our hallway mirror at my childhood home acting like our local Cleveland meteorologist – warning the public about the tornado that was  bearing down on us! It really is a dream come true, and sometimes I need to be reminded of that. It was either playing in the NBA (clearly that didn’t work out) or be a meteorologist.

We set goals in our life and when we achieve them and are even living them it’s so easy not to stop and take it all in. It’s nice to be reminded every once and a while that I’m doing right now what I dreamed of doing when I was a kid. I’m extremely lucky and blessed to be able to do something for a living that I would honestly be doing anyways for fun.

This is the first of hopefully many more posts to come!
