Could it be? A Warm Up Finally Headed Our Way!

After a VERY snowy start to our February it almost seemed appropriate that the Snowy Owl made an appearance here in West Central Ohio, was he mocking us???? 😉

But at the same time another feathered friend, the Robin, was making an appearance as well!

Weather folk-lore aside, one thing is for certain, we have 38 DAYS until the official beginning of Spring! And with the cold and snowy winter we have seen so far, I have found myself looking for ANY signs of a warm up!

While putting together my forecast today I came across this today while looking at the jet stream about a week and a half from now. This may not look like much to you but to me it says possible RELIEF from cold weather!

Jet 10 days out

What you’re seeing is a ridge and not a trough in the jet stream over the eastern half of the United States. Of course this is still about 10 days away, but this does show a potential warm up for the second half of February, possibly into the 40’s and 50’s. That would feel like a heat wave right about now!

The National Weather Service seems to agree, their most recent 8 to 14 day outlook shows above average temperatures being a good bet towards the end of the month.

8 to 14 day outlook

But before we get there we still have some very cold nights ahead here in West Central Ohio with lows tonight expected to drop below zero, this would make for the 14th day in 2014 we have seen temperatures fall below zero in Lima. Last year we didn’t have a SINGLE day with temperatures below zero! What a difference a year can make!

I think it’s safe to say we are all ready for some warmer weather 🙂
